We begin our trek from Mahatua area to start the ascent to one of the three main volcanoes of the island: Maunga Poike. Going along the hillside, we cross three hills of the area, we´ll see moai that were carved with unique stones from the island and we’ ll visit the cavern of the virgins or Ana Hue Neru, a place that had relevance in the cult of Tangata Manu or Birdman.

We’ ll contemplate the ruins of Riki Riki Ahu to appreciate a platform with lying moai and we start the ascent to Puakatiki (370 mt), the highest point of this volcano to enjoy the panoramic view of the island.

We descend to Tari Paihenga where our vehicle take us back to the town.

This place is totally inhospitable so it’ s recommended to take a picnic on behalf of the traveler or request us for the optional box lunch service.
