Half day tour, Orongo
The tour begins about 9:30 AM from Hanga Roa. On the way to Rano Kau volcano, we´ll visit Ana Kai Tangata o “the cave of the cannibals”, one of the most interesting and accesible caves on the island where you can still appreciate rock art.
Then, the tour goes to Orongo’s ceremonial village: ancient ceremonial village located on the west cliff of the Rano Kau volcano. There are approximately 53 elliptically shaped house with a small square access looking to the sea.
In this place was performed the most important ceremony of the second period of the island, the Tangata Manu (“The birdman”) which stopped about 150 years ago product of the arrival of the first Christian missionaries.
